Post-doc in non-market ecosystem services valuation
The Oleson Lab (olesonlab.org) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa is searching for a 2-year post-doc to join an interdisciplinary team of oceanographers, ecological modelers, human dimension social scientists, and economists on a NOAA-funded project investigating ecological and social vulnerability to ocean acidification in the Main Hawaiian Islands.
Key duties are to (1) translate outputs of an ecological model into outcomes for people using ecosystem service models and valuation, with a focus on recreation, tourism, coastal protection, and reef fisheries; and (2) illustrate social vulnerability to change in coral reef ecosystem services.
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in environmental economics or related field with strong interest in the role of ecosystems in conferring social, economic, and cultural resilience. They will have experience designing and implementing non-market valuation studies related to ecosystem services such as recreation, tourism, coastal protection, fisheries, or other coastal service.
