Wildfire Economist
The USDA Forest Service’s Economics and Policy Research Work Unit is excited to announce the opening of a permanent, full-time position at the Southern Research Station as a Research Economist or Research Forester at the GS-12 or GS-13 level. We seek applicants with a background and interest in the economics of wildfire to support the Forest Service’s Wildfire Crisis Strategy. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to advance scientific research across a broad range of topics addressed by the Unit.
The Unit’s mission is to improve our understanding of the interaction between people and their environment. We strive to advance knowledge of how forest-based disturbances and their management affect economic values, how policies influence forestry decision making, how forest product markets behave and are affected by policies and shocks, and how forest-based ecosystem services are produced and valued. The Unit’s problem areas include Human and Natural Disturbances, Forest Management and Society, and Markets and Trade.
The position is located at the Forestry Sciences Laboratory in Research Triangle Park, in Durham, NC.
