QUALIFICATIONS
Academic: Ph.D. in Economics or related disciplines with a field in environmental or energy economics (JEL Q4 or Q5). Candidates should have strong teaching and research skills. Candidates with skills and interests in environmental and energy economics are strongly preferred. The candidate is expected to publish peer-reviewed articles in related fields, teach courses and advise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and provide institutional services. The position may include participation in distance education.
Required Qualifications: Ph. D. in economics or a closely related discipline. Candidates must have the degree in hand by the date of hire. A field in environmental or energy economics (JEL Q4 or Q5). Applicants must be able to demonstrate evidence of successful teaching potential and research productivity in economics either in a prior professional position or as a Ph.D. student.
Preferred Qualifications: Special consideration will be given to candidates whose research focuses on policies related to energy (JEL Q4) or environmental (JEL Q5) issues. A secondary field in industrial organization (L0) is also preferred. Applicants who become finalists may be asked to provide additional materials.

The Department, The College, and The University: The Department of Economics, Applied Statistics, and International Business has about 25 full-time faculty members. It is one of five departments in the College of Business. The Department offers undergraduate majors in economics and international business, master’s degrees in economics and applied statistics, the Doctor of Economic Development, and PhD in Applied Statistics. Departmental faculty members participate in scholarly activities, including funded and unfunded research and directing graduate student research. The College of Business has about 60 faculty members and approximately 1,600 majors. The College is fully accredited by AACSB. The College of Business is also home to the Center for Border Economic Development (https://cbed.nmsu.edu/index.html) and the Center for Public Utilities (cpu.nmsu.edu). The University is the land-grant institution of the State of New Mexico and has approximately 14,000 students at the Las Cruces campus.
Geographical: New Mexico State University is located in an area known for its multicultural heritage. Recreational opportunities are many and varied. Organ Mountain and Desert Peaks National Monument are visible from campus. White Sands National Park is nearby as are Ski Cloudcroft and Ski Apache. Downtown El Paso is less than an hour from campus.
