Wildfire Economist
The USGS Fort Collins Science Center is recruiting for a GS-12 Term Economist position stationed in Fort Collins, CO (https://www.usajobs.gov/job/783175000). The position will close on 4/5/24. This position will provide support for multiple ongoing wildfire research projects. The major duties of the position will include:
- Plans and leads multiple complex economic research and analysis projects related to environmental and natural resource issues, identifying, assessing, and evaluating the risk of wildfire to multiple resources and assets, including natural resources, cultural resources, and built infrastructure.
- Contributes to a larger interdisciplinary research team that is developing innovative methods for assessing and addressing wildfire risk; integrates recent advances in wildfire behavior and spread modeling with novel approaches to identifying, assessing, and valuing risk to high value resources and assets.
- Coordinates and collaborates with scientist, managers, and other staff internal and external, tribal agencies, and universities.
- Develops interpretative materials such as scientific reports, project updates, and briefings for dissemination to multiple audiences including project funders, interagency leadership on fire and fuels management, and other stakeholders in decisions about land management and wildfire risk.
- Presents research results in the form of scientific presentations at meetings of scientific organizations; publishes results in peer reviewed scientific journals.
- Operates a motor vehicle as an incidental driver.
